Wellness Program Helps Women Put Their Health First

3 min read  |  May 27, 2025  |

Like many busy women, Maggie Binimelis admits to putting herself last when it comes to her health.

“We take care of the home, the mom, the children,” Maggie says.

That’s why Morgan Sendzischew Shane, M.D., created the Comprehensive Women’s Health Alliance at UHealth. The program provides women-focused healthcare while keeping convenience top of mind.

“The idea of this Women’s Health Alliance really came out of that, where we have a nurse navigator and a patient navigator team where you can come to us when it’s convenient for you and get the appropriate screenings for your health, for your age. We have successfully enrolled nearly 1200 patients, women in our community all across South Florida,” says Dr. Shane.

It’s going to be two years since the launch of the Women’s Health Alliance here at UHealth. The program helps busy women who often put themselves last get the healthcare they need on their own time and in one place.

“Maybe your schedule is difficult, and you can only get off between the hours of two and four, and so you’re able to speak to one person who is able to make all of the appointments you need across the entire health system,” Dr. Shane says.

Nurse Navigator Coordinates Care with One Call

“She scheduled a mammogram. She scheduled a bone density. She scheduled with my general doctor, and then dermatology,” says Maggie.

“We focus, certainly, on primary care and preventative care, so internal medicine, gynecology. We also have gastroenterology, urogynecology, dermatology, cardiology,” Dr. Shane says.

The reaction from patients has been off the charts!

“We’ve gotten tons of great feedback about how we’ve been able to escalate appointments to sooner times. One of our patients said it’s the best multidisciplinary care she’s gotten in 25 years in our community,” says Dr. Shane.

Maggie is now on top of her health and can focus on her family.

“You have more time to be with them and not be worrying about anything else that you have to be doing,” Maggie says.
